Abstract
In many industrial applications, cylindrical shells are affected by different temperature conditions during their lifetime, yielding to the thermal stresses and variation of structural vibration characteristics and natural frequencies. Therefore, in this research, the effects of temperature increase on the natural frequencies of the cylindrical shell have been investigated experimentally through acoustic testing. For this purpose, first, the natural frequencies of a cylindrical shell are extracted utilizing Comsol software. Then, the natural frequencies of the shell are determined by the impact hammer test. Next, the cylindrical shell is placed into the acoustic room and is stimulated by a speaker inside the acoustic room. In this case, the sound pressure level is measured by the microphone inside the shell, and the natural frequencies of the system are measured by the frequency analysis at ambient temperature. Validation of the acoustic test presented in this article is evaluated and verified by modal test and numerical solution at ambient temperature. Finally, the shell is heated in a thermal chamber to a temperature of more than 80ºC and the acoustic test is repeated again. The results indicate that the natural frequencies of the system decrease as the temperature increases.
