Abstract
One type of vibration control system to reduce the seismic response of structures is tuned mass dampers (TMD). By adjusting the damping and frequency parameters in this type of damper, the seismic response can be significantly reduced. Therefore, to achieve the mentioned optimal parameters, several methods have been proposed so far. In this study, a 10-story steel structure was modeled and sensitivity analysis was performed under 3 far-field earthquake records with different mass and frequency ratios in the Opensees software. The parameters obtained from the sensitivity analysis were examined and compared in three cases with mass ratios of 2%, 3% and 4%, and two criteria of maximum responses and root mean square (RMS) were used to find the seismic responses. Finally, the parameters obtained from both criteria were examined with the empirical relations of Ioi and Ikeda. The results show that with increasing mass ratio, the displacement responses decrease. Also, the tuned mass dampers have less sensitivity to the damping ratio, while the responses show high sensitivity to minimal changes in the frequency ratio.
